Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is defined as a submission art form, with no striking. It is a non-aggressive, non-violent, martial art in which the student can choose to learn at their own pace, grapple as they see fit and is an excellent aerobic and anaerobic workout for those Jiust looking to engage in some kind of physical activity. It engages at all levels of grappling, from the feet, to the clinch, to the ground fighting itself. It is usually practiced with a Gi or kimono, or during the warmer months and particular classes without the Gi (No Gi classes).

Anthony Lange, head instructor at Lange’s MMA, is a second degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Rigan Machado and John Will. He has 20 years of experience in the grappling arts, and founded one of the first genuine Brazilian Jiu Jitsu clubs in Sydney, dating back as far as 1994. He is a world champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, winning gold at the world masters in 2003, and taking out the Australian title in 2007 in Melbourne without having a point scored against him. Widely regarded in grappling circles as one of Australia’s finest instructors, always dedicated and willing to impart knowledge, Anthony is without a doubt a clear choice for grappling instruction.

Anthony believes that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an art form without ego. One of the mottos for the gym is the firm belief and statement – ‘Leave your ego at the door‘. This makes it a peaceful art form and a great learning environment for those wishing to pursue it as a hobby, for fitness or fun, or those who wish to take it more seriously and compete.

Having produced many, many state, national and world champion grapplers, Anthony has done so using his knowledge of coaching and open learning approach to classes to constantly advance his students. He has produced national and world champion black belts and students are always satisfied with his style of teaching and imparting his knowledge to his students.

Beginner classes are very structured and students will learn from beginning to end. There is a clear syllabus for advancing and a highly structured grading system, all the way from white belt to black belt. Beginners learn from a set of structured moves designed to advance their skill set and help them define their art form. There are classes every day for beginners and advanced students, and all are welcome to grapple in any Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class on offer at the club.

Advanced classes are held so that belts of a higher level can gather and learn at an accelerated pace. They are typically geared for competition and are very focused on developing the skills of the practitioner so they are ready for competition, whether it be their first, or 50th.

If you are looking for the best in instruction and an open learning environment, then you can surely look no further. Anthony Lange is one of the best out there, and should you wish to compete, or are Jiust looking to have some fun on the mat, there is no other way to go!
