The history of Mixed Martial Arts can actually be traced back as far as the original Olympics in Greece where they competed in a sport known as Pankration that blended boxing and wrestling together to create a combat style that is very similar to what is practiced by today’s modern Mixed Martial Artists.
But the roots of MMA in its modern form can be traced back to the combat sport of Vale Tudo that began in Brazil in the 1920’s. Also professional Japanese MMA events (Then known in Japan as Shootfighting) were run by the Shooto organisation starting in 1989.
The sport was popularised in the west with the inception of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 1993. Since then the sport has evolved at a dramatic rate and is often cited as being the fastest growing sport in the world today.
At Langes MMA, head coach Anthony Lange has been training and competing in MMA since the early 90’s and is truly one of the Australian pioneers of the sport being the first to fight professionally in both Vale Tudo and Shooto events held locally and internationally and also founding the first MMA gym in Sydney in 1994.
Mr. Lange holds Black Belts and teaching certificates in multiple styles including Shoot System (MMA), Northside Kickboxing, Corral Arnis, Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Stav and has over 20 years of Martial Arts experience. As a coach he has the exceptional ability of being able to impart this extensive knowledge and experience of the Martial Arts to all of his students so that they themselves grow into accomplished Martial Artists and passionate practitioners of the sport. Mr Lange really excels at being able to teach his near encyclopaedic knowledge of techniques and moves to a student so that it incorporates well into the level of instruction that they require and does it in a clear and easy to understand manner that everyone is able to benefit from
Anthony has coached many Australian MMA Fighters to victory both locally and internationally including multiple Australian MMA champions and he also coached the first Australian to ever compete and win in the UFC, Elvis Sinosic.
Currently the gym is the home to many fighters competing in the local circuit, but is also home to great students who enjoy the sport watching the sport and wish to train in its techniques to gain a better understanding of it and to also improve their fitness and Self Defence skills along with their overall well being of mind and body.
