Langes is the first and finest
At Langes MMA, head coach Anthony Lange has been training and competing in MMA since the early 90’s and is truly one of the Australian pioneers of the sport.
He was the first Australian to fight professionally in both ‘Vale Tudo’ and ‘Shooto’ events held locally and internationally. Anthony Lange founded the very first MMA gym in Sydney in 1994 and it is still open today near Manly NSW with a well respected set of alumni and black belts in all disciplines.
History
The history of Mixed Martial Arts can be traced back as far as the original Olympics in Greece where they competed in a sport known as Pankration that blended boxing and wrestling together to create a combat style that is very similar to what is practiced by today’s modern Mixed Martial Artists.
The roots of MMA in its modern form can also be traced back to the combat sport of ‘Vale Tudo’ that began in Brazil in the 1920’s. Also Japanese paid (professional) MMA events (Then known in Japan as Shootfighting) were run by the Shooto organisation starting in 1989.The sport was popularised in the west with the inception of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 1993. Since then the sport has evolved at a dramatic rate and is often cited as being the fastest growing sport in the world today.
Anthony Lange holds Black Belts and teaching certificates in multiple styles including Shoot System (MMA), Northside Kickboxing, Corral Arnis, Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Stav and has over 25 years of Martial Arts experience. As a coach he has the exceptional ability of being able to impart this extensive knowledge and experience of the Martial Arts to all of his students so that they themselves grow into accomplished Martial Artists and passionate practitioners of the sport. Mr Lange has an teaching style that truly imparts his near encyclopaedic knowledge of techniques and moves to a student, so that it incorporates well into the level of instruction that they require and he does it in a clear and easy to understand manner that makes it clear to everyone. This in turn ensures that his students remain constantly engaged in the club and community and also challenged by the expectations that one may choose to out on themselves
Anthony has coached many Australian MMA Fighters to victory both locally and internationally including multiple Australian MMA champions and he also coached the first Australian to ever compete and win in the UFC, Elvis Sinosic.
Currently the gym is the home to many fighters competing in the local circuit and is also home to great students who enjoy partaking in the sport, watching the sport and wish to train in its techniques to gain a better understanding of biomechanics. We also aim to improve the fitness of registered members including Self Defence skills for women, along with their overall well being of mind and body. We boast black belt female professors teaching female only classes at three timetable slots per week. This is a MUST for all grrrls, girls in general and mums too….
